Hi Paul & all
The best realised example of a transition to sustainable agriculture
that I know of (including a lot of urban and peri-urban agriculture,
apparently) is the example of Cuba and their "special period" in the
1990s following the collapse of the Soviet Union. But I don't have a
really good reference for this, except that there is a documentary
called The Power of Community. ( www.communitysolution.org/ - PdG)
Another good resource is the www.cityfarmer.org website - they're in
Canada and have been working in urban agriculture for 29 years (amazing)
so they probably know all there is to know about the topic.
